SOLON, Ohio —
Theft: Aurora Road
On November 26 at 12:10 p.m., officers were called to Giant Eagle, 34310 Aurora Road, for a report of a man walking out of the store with two cases of beer that he had not paid for.
The suspect was seen getting into a white SUV that was waiting in the parking lot with a woman in the driver’s seat.
Police searched the area and found the vehicle at a car wash across the street. An officer walked up to the SUV and saw a box of Modelo and a box of Budweiser inside. The man dried the vehicle after it was washed to apparently distract police from the suspects’ trail.
The man admitted to taking the beer from the store.
Police also found steaks and other groceries stolen from the store in the SUV. It was learned that the woman, 55, of Twinsburg, had also been at the store and stolen merchandise. Police charged her and the 66-year-old Cleveland man with theft.
The theft totaled $246.
Both were issued a criminal trespass warning and the SUV was towed.
Criminal damage: Janet Boulevard
On November 26 at 3:20 p.m., a man, 33, reported that someone had deliberately damaged his home’s Christmas decorations. A lighted inflatable figure and a light strand were cut.
There are no suspects.
OVI: Harper Road
On November 26 at 11 p.m., an officer watched as a truck left US 422 at Harper Road. The truck was in the right turn lane, but turned left. It was then seen crossing the center line on Cannon Road.
A traffic stop was conducted and it turned out that the driver smelled of alcohol. The driver, a Bentleyville man, 38 years old, told the officer he was coming from a bar where he was having “a beer.”
The man failed field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol content of 0.122, above the state minimum for drunk driving of 0.08.
Police revoked the man’s driver’s license and charged him with OVI, having a prohibited driver’s license, failing to drive within marked lanes and displaying expired license plates.
OVI: Harper Road
On November 27 at 10:50 p.m., an officer observed a Volvo SUV traveling west on US 422 drive too close while passing an officer conducting a traffic stop on the right side of the road.
The SUV left the highway at Harper Road, where a traffic stop was made. The driver, a Cleveland woman, 33, smelled of alcohol. There was also a 9-year-old girl in the car.
The woman failed the sobriety test. An open bottle of wine was found in the SUV.
The woman had a BAC of .267.
Police revoked the woman’s driver’s license and charged her with OVI, having a prohibited driver’s license, driving under suspension, endangering a child, failing to keep clear of an emergency vehicle, driving with expired license plates , having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and not having a driver’s license. wearing a seat belt.
Police also held the woman under arrest warrant for failing to appear in court during previous OVI arrests in Shaker Heights and Orange.
The child was released to her father, who drove to the scene of the traffic stop.
OVI: Richmond Road
On November 29 at 11:10 p.m., an officer on patrol observed a Ford sedan traveling south on Richmond Road, near Cannon Road. The car did not come to a complete stop at a stop sign before turning onto Cannon Road.
The car, which had a non-functioning headlight, dragged a part, causing sparks as it drove through the Cannon Road tunnel.
The car also had a flat tire and damage to the front end. It looked like the car had hit something.
A traffic stop was conducted. The driver, a Bedford Heights man, 29, smelled of alcohol. He told the officer that his car had crashed into a curb.
The man failed field sobriety tests and was found to have a BAC of 0.223.
Police revoked the man’s driver’s license and charged him with OVI, having a prohibited driver’s license, failing to stop at a stop sign, driving without headlights and without a seat belt.
OVI: VS 422
On November 30 at 8:30 PM, a concerned motorist reported seeing a car driving erratically on US 422 eastbound between Harper and SOM Center roads. An officer found the blue Chrysler 300 driving partially along the shoulder of the highway.
A traffic stop was conducted and the female driver was found crying and in an emotional state. The woman admitted in slurred words that she had been drinking.
The woman was unsteady on her feet and her lack of coordination made it impossible to perform field sobriety tests. At one point the woman sat on the ground.
She was arrested and breath tested in Solon prison. She had a BAC of .252.
Police have revoked the 49-year-old Bedford Heights woman’s license and charged her with OVI, having a prohibited alcohol content, a clear lane violation and, because a bottle of whiskey was found in her car, having an open container in a motor vehicle.
